Animal Crossing New Horizons Halloween: Tips For Getting Started

Today is the first day of the Halloween event in Animal Crossing New Horizons! I’m going to lay out some tips you need to know about getting started, so you don’t wind up missing items at the end of the month. I use a lot of pictures, so keep scrolling for more tips!

Check your mailbox!

  • You will have a letter from Nook telling you they’ve added new items at the Nook Stop terminal in the town hall.

  • There will be a letter from Jack (The king of Halloween!). He says he will come to town on Oct. 31st and he gives you this awesome portrait of himself for free! It even glows in the dark!

Visit the Nookling’s Shop for new seasonal items!

  • Check the season Items on the floor display. There are a number of good Halloween themed items from the spooky set and the display has more variety than other seasonal displays in the past.

Buy candy from the cabinet at the Nookling’s Shop every day!

  • Candy is available in the cabinet, but there is a limitation of purchasing one piece per day.

  • You can get around this a bit by purchasing candy on different characters in your town and then pool them all on your main character!

  • Candy only costs 120 bells each.

  • Jack is coming on October 31st and candy will be a big part of it! It’s likely Jack will consume your candy for chances at new items, so make sure to log in everyday to stockpile candy!

We get to grow pumpkins!

  • Pumpkins come in 4 colors: Orange, Green, Yellow, and White.

  • Pumpkins take 3 full days to grow (harvest on the fourth), but watering them everyday will increase your pumpkin yield! Three full days of watering on one character will give you three pumpkins from a single plant when picked.

  • Some pumpkin colors are rarer than others, plus with 4 different types you’ll need for making DIYs, make sure to plant pumpkin starts in bulk! Orange pumpkins are common, while green, white, and yellow appear at a lower rate.

  • Pumpkin starts cost 280 gil each.

Villagers can give you Halloween themed DIYs!

  • There is usually a villager in your town making DIYs at the workbench in their home for you to find. Now, they can give you Halloween themed DIYs, so hunt down the crafters in your town!
